This project is to help my kindergarten students during our mandated distance learning. At this grade level, we concentrate on basic academic skills with a play-based learning approach. This can be difficult when students don't have the minimal supplies at home. To help, I would like to create a take-home distance learning bundle filled with amazing supplies. This bundle will house a practice binder with several hands on activities. It will include individual and family games, sight word cards, and handwriting practices with dry-erase markers. Dry erase boards will also be used during Zoom meetings for teacher-student practices. Kindergarten journals will help my students refine their fine motor skills at home as well as respond to teacher read literature. Other manipulatives will enhance their daily practice to mimic some of my regular classroom techniques; name tags will be a great daily visual for letters, sound, and name recognition. Post-it notes can display weekly sight words around their home for extra practice. Teaching during the previous closure also opened my eyes to the need for small manipulatives which couldn't be found in most homes. Play-Doh, snap cubes, and dice will be used in multiple subjects and support several skills; such as creating letters/numbers/shapes, counting, measuring, and representing quantities. When we finally are able to return to the classroom, these items will continue to be used for another variation of learning and continued practice. These items will make a world of a difference for my kiddos!
