I teach a high school biotechnology course where students are introduced to the exciting world of modern science and innovation. These students are highly motivated and curious, and many of them are interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields, including biology, environmental science, agriculture, and medicine.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, biotechnology is a hands-on discipline that requires specialized lab equipment and consumable supplies in order to deliver meaningful learning experiences. Access to those materials is often out of reach for our school budget. Because of this, my students are limited in their ability to truly explore and apply biotechnology concepts such as micropipetting, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, and bacterial transformation.\r\n\r\nWith the support of this DonorsChoose project, my students will be able to:\r\n\r\nCarry out authentic lab investigations using real biotechnology tools and reagents\r\n\r\nStrengthen their understanding of core biology concepts through inquiry-based learning\r\n\r\nBuild technical skills that are valuable for college and STEM career pathways\r\n\r\nDevelop confidence and excitement about science\r\n\r\nThese supplies will help transform our classroom from a place where we only read and talk about biotechnology to one where students actually do biotechnology. Your contribution will ensure that my students get to practice the same skills that scientists and researchers use in laboratory settings every day.\r\n\r\nYour generosity will help my students experience the thrill of discovery and reinforce that they belong in the world of science. Thank you for making hands-on biotechnology possible for my students and for investing in their futures.","fullyFundedDate":1746785794385,"projectUrl":"project/biotechnology-lab-equipment-needs/9274871/","projectTitle":"Biotechnology Lab Equipment Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Phillips","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5932935"},{"teacherId":9633671,"projectId":8578260,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our Energy Modeling Project. The materials you provided have had a transformative impact on my Earth and Physical Science students here at Eaglecrest High School. I'm thrilled to share how they've been used to bring energy concepts to life through our Rube Goldberg project.\r\n\r\nThe Rube Goldberg project challenged students to design intricate machines that transferred energy through a series of creative and interconnected steps. Using the modeling materials you funded, students explored concepts like kinetic and potential energy, energy transfer, and efficiency. Each group worked tirelessly to build and fine-tune their machines, testing ramps, pulleys, levers, and other components to keep the energy moving from one step to the next.\r\n\r\nOne group built a machine that transferred energy from a falling domino chain to a marble run, eventually triggering a small fan that knocked over the final domino. Watching them troubleshoot and celebrate each small success was inspiring. Another group used their design to model energy conservation, carefully calculating the transfer at each stage to maximize efficiency. These moments not only reinforced the scientific principles we studied but also fostered creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nA standout moment came when a student exclaimed, \"This makes physics so much more fun—I finally understand how energy really works!\" For many students, this hands-on experience helped them connect abstract concepts to real-world applications in a way that traditional instruction simply couldn't match.\r\n\r\nYour support made this engaging and meaningful learning experience possible. These materials will continue to serve our class for future projects, inspiring new ideas and sparking excitement for science. On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for helping us make physics interactive, accessible, and, most importantly, fun.","fullyFundedDate":1727463011729,"projectUrl":"project/energy-modeling-project/8578260/","projectTitle":"Energy Modeling Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haugen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9633671"},{"teacherId":9229591,"projectId":8574032,"letterContent":"Thank you for the gift of the written word!
