Many of them were eager to touch, sort, and build with the materials, and it sparked a level of curiosity that we don't always see with traditional instruction. Instead of feeling intimidated by math concepts, students were smiling, asking questions, and fully engaged. It created a welcoming entry point for all learners, especially those who benefit from hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are using these manipulatives daily to bring math concepts to life. During a recent lesson on place value, students used base-ten blocks to physically build numbers, break them apart, and explain their thinking to peers. This made abstract concepts much more concrete and easier to understand. One standout moment was when a student who typically struggles with math was able to confidently demonstrate their understanding by using the manipulatives to solve a problem and explain their reasoning. These tools are not only supporting academic growth but also building confidence and encouraging participation.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to incorporate these materials into lessons on addition, subtraction, and problem-solving. Students will begin using the manipulatives to model more complex problems and eventually transition to representing their thinking through drawings and written explanations. Our goal is to help students build a strong foundation in math while developing independence and critical thinking skills. \r\nYour support has made math more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for every student in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1771008072393,"projectUrl":"project/math-manipulatives-that-matter-hands-on/10060673/","projectTitle":"Math Manipulatives That Matter: Hands-On Learning for Every Student","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Singletary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10021876_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762726471040","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10021876"},{"teacherId":10021876,"projectId":10023571,"letterContent":"When our students first walked into the classroom and saw the new rug and yoga ball chairs, their reactions were priceless—big smiles, curiosity, and immediate excitement to try everything out. The rug quickly became a favorite gathering space, with students eager to sit together for read-alouds and group discussions. The yoga ball chairs were just as popular, especially for students who benefit from movement. After going over expectations, students were eager to use the new seating in a way that supports their learning, and they've taken that responsibility seriously.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these resources throughout the day in meaningful ways. The rug has created a warm, inviting space for whole-group lessons and small group work, helping build a stronger sense of classroom community. The yoga ball chairs have been especially impactful during independent work time—students who typically struggle with staying seated or focused are able to gently move while working, which has improved their attention and productivity. One moment that stood out was during a writing block when a student who often needs frequent redirection was able to stay engaged and complete their assignment while using a yoga ball chair.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to help students reflect on what seating choices work best for them and why. This is helping them build self-awareness and independence as learners. We plan to keep incorporating the rug into collaborative activities and use the yoga ball chairs to support focus during independent tasks. Your generosity has helped us create a more comfortable, flexible, and responsive learning environment, and we are already seeing the positive impact it is having on our students every day.","fullyFundedDate":1769177948352,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-space-for-focus-and-learning/10023571/","projectTitle":"Flexible Space for Focus and Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Singletary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10021876_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762726471040","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10021876"},{"teacherId":10021876,"projectId":9929284,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our students now have access to chapter books that are helping them take the next big step in their reading journey.\r\n\r\nMany people love chapter books because they tell longer, richer stories. In our classroom, these books are powerful teaching tools. They allow us to introduce and practice higher-level reading skills such as tracking characters across chapters, understanding plot development, identifying problems and solutions, and making inferences using clues from the text. Students are also learning to build reading stamina, remember important details, and discuss how characters change over time.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom often happens in small groups and guided discussions. We pause frequently to talk about what's happening in the story, clarify confusing parts, and predict what might happen next. Students use graphic organizers, oral retells, and projects to show their understanding rather than relying only on written responses. This approach helps ensure that all students — especially those who need extra support — can access and enjoy longer texts.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who once felt intimidated by chapter books are now choosing them independently. One student proudly shared that it was the first time they had ever finished a \"big book\" on their own. Others are excited to talk about characters they feel connected to and eagerly ask when we'll read the next chapter. These moments show growing confidence, perseverance, and a developing love for reading.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students experience the joy and accomplishment that comes with reading longer texts. Your support is opening the door to deeper understanding, stronger literacy skills, and a belief that they are capable readers.","fullyFundedDate":1765390393339,"projectUrl":"project/stories-that-stick-small-group-adventur/9929284/","projectTitle":"Stories That Stick: Small Group Adventures","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Singletary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10021876_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762726471040","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10021876"},{"teacherId":10021876,"projectId":9886097,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, reading in our classroom has truly transformed.\r\n\r\nMany people love books (we do too!), but teaching students how to read is just as important as what they read. These new books allow us to teach foundational reading skills in a meaningful, engaging way. Through these texts, students are learning how stories work — noticing patterns, building vocabulary, understanding characters' feelings, sequencing events, and making sense of cause and effect. We also use these books to strengthen early phonics skills, oral language, and listening comprehension, which are critical for students who are still developing confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks different than a traditional whole-group lesson. Students listen to stories read aloud multiple times, talk about what they notice, act out parts, retell events using visuals, and connect the stories to their own lives. Instead of rushing through books, we slow down and revisit them, allowing students to feel successful and truly understand what they are reading. Each book becomes a small unit of learning, ending with a hands-on project that lets students show what they know in creative ways.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time are now some of the most excited participants. Students who once avoided books are eager to predict what comes next, name characters, and share their favorite parts. For some of my lowest readers, these books have been the first time they felt confident speaking about a story in front of others. That confidence is powerful — it builds motivation, language, and a belief that they can be readers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create a classroom where reading feels accessible, joyful, and empowering for every student. Your support is helping our readers grow not just in skill, but in confidence and love for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1764015710920,"projectUrl":"project/stories-that-stick-building-understandi/9886097/","projectTitle":"Stories That Stick: Building Understanding One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Singletary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10021876_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762726471040","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10021876"},{"teacherId":9060893,"projectId":8459415,"letterContent":"I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for supporting our project We're Showing Kindness: A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!\" through your generous donations.
