It is truly the heart of our classroom. During this time, students engage in learning, build friendships, and practice classroom expectations in a structured and supportive environment.\r\n\r\nWhen the new materials arrived, the students noticed right away. Many of my non-verbal students excitedly pointed at the new items. Some eagerly chose their favorite cube chair, while others simply watched in awe, taking it all in.\r\n\r\nStudents especially enjoy whiteboard time. I use a gradual release model of instruction. For example, first I model the task, then we complete it together, and finally students demonstrate their learning independently. For example, during letter tracing practice, I demonstrate how to form the letter, we trace it together, and then students take turns tracing on the whiteboard themselves. Seeing their confidence grow in those moments is incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nOur cool-down corner has also become an important space. Students find comfort using the soft stuffed animals to help re-center themselves. The stuffed animal catcher gives our little \"classroom friends\" a special home and makes the space feel safe and welcoming.\r\n\r\nOur next steps focus on strengthening early literacy and independence. We are continuing to build letter recognition and formation skills while also connecting letters to sounds. Students will begin practicing tracing letters in different sensory ways, such as using shaving cream or textured surfaces, to support fine motor development.\r\n\r\nWe are also working on turn-taking, communication (both verbal and non-verbal), and building stamina during instructional time. The flexible seating and calming tools are helping students stay regulated and ready to learn so they can participate more fully in group lessons.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students are not only learning academic skills, they are building confidence, communication, and a sense of belonging in our classroom community. They hear the words in the story being carried out through live performances of song and/or dialogue.
