In our science class, students used the new digital tablets and interactive simulations to design a mini \"green classroom\" project. Working in small groups, they researched waste reduction, air quality, and organization strategies, then created action plans using shared documents and visuals. One group tracked how much paper we used in a week and proposed switching to digital submissions, while another designed a labeled recycling and supply station.\r\nWhat made this project meaningful was how it connected learning to our physical space. As students implemented their ideas, the classroom became noticeably cleaner and more organized—less paper clutter, clearer desk spaces, and shared responsibility for keeping materials tidy. The new resources didn't just support academic learning; they helped students see how thoughtful use of tools and collaboration can create a cleaner, calmer classroom environment where everyone can focus and learn better.\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of excitement and curiosity. Many of them immediately wanted to touch and explore everything, asking questions about how the tools worked and what we would use them for. A few students who are usually quieter became more engaged right away, volunteering to help set things up or read instructions aloud.\r\nWhat stood out most was how quickly they connected the materials to responsibility. Once we talked about keeping the classroom clean and organized so the resources would last, students began reminding each other to return items properly and wipe down surfaces after use. Their initial excitement turned into pride in maintaining a clean classroom environment, and they saw the materials as something valuable they wanted to take care of together.","fullyFundedDate":1764604119652,"projectUrl":"project/clean-and-healthy-classroom-environment/9873510/","projectTitle":"Clean and Healthy Classroom Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Grant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10341038"},{"teacherId":9661368,"projectId":9106929,"letterContent":"Hunger has a profound impact on a student's ability to learn, concentrate, and fully engage in the classroom. When middle school students are hungry, their energy levels drop, their attention spans shorten, and they may struggle to regulate their emotions, leading to decreased academic performance and increased behavioral challenges. For many students, especially those from food-insecure households, school may be the only place where they have reliable access to nourishment. When basic needs like hunger are unmet, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, for students to focus on learning, collaborate with peers, or retain information. Simply put, a hungry student is not in the right state of mind to succeed.\r\n\r\n By providing snacks in the classroom, we are not only meeting a physical need but also creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. Snack availability helps ensure that all students, regardless of their home situation, have the fuel they need to stay focused and engaged throughout the school day. It removes the stigma some students may feel about asking for food and fosters a classroom culture where every child feels seen, cared for, and ready to participate. Thanks to your generous support, these snacks help create a space where all students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. My scholars participated in a rock cycle lab that no other 8th science teacher did with their students. The burning of the materials flocked students that i did not teach to my classroom. They wanted to know what were my scholars doing and could they do it too. As for my scholars this activity served as an incentive as well. Due to the factor that my students love hands on labs their behavior tightened up drastically, because the did not want to miss out on this opportunity. The lab activity, provoked curiosity. Students wanted to know if the airhead candy still had the same taste after it melted and resolidified? The asked can we taste the Igneous rock? Boy was I so elated. They were regurgitate the rock cycle information that had been learning through text. I granted their request. After tasting the new formed rock, they also conclude this is a new material and that it did not taste like what it did before they melted the airhead and they asked why. This allowed us to revisit the concept of chemical reactions. My students were learning so much at one time they were mind blown. It was a joy to see them operate in their pure innocent state of a child ear to explore. Thank you for providing this experience for my scholars to partake in.
