Your donation of the beanbags to our class has had several positive effects.\r\n \r\nThe beanbags have proved to be very versatile. One of their most important functions is that they help create a mini-space within the classroom that offers the students a feeling of privacy or of not being in a classroom, in the strict sense of the word. \r\n \r\nAnother contribution is that I feel that it adds to building a love for reading because bean bags are a type of flexible seating that is not usually related to school. Often students relate reading to something that you do in the classroom, a \"must do\", but having flexible seating creates more of an informal setting that is comfy and cozy that I hope relays the idea that reading is also something that is done for personal enjoyment.\r\n\r\nOne of my personal favorite things about having these bean bags is that it helps to motivate the students to read or do an assignment with me. They love it when they or their reading group is called to read because they know they get a chance to be on the beanbags.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited when I told them that my project got funded and they got even more excited when a few days later they saw three huge boxes outside of our door, they knew what it was.\r\n\r\nI think a next step for the use of the beanbags is for the students to use them in literature circles where independently, without my assistance, they can sit on the beanbags while they discuss the same book.","fullyFundedDate":1727282590339,"projectUrl":"project/beanbag-meet-up/8810902/","projectTitle":"Beanbag Meet-Up!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Horta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1254879_orig.jpg?crop=1053,1053,x47,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726937877315","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1254879"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7554","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":612,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":81,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"24.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.1,"schoolId":7554,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Theodore Alexander Science Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Theodore Alexander Science Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/dr-theodore-alexander-science-ctr/7554"}
