My second graders absolutely loved the story: they laughed at the quirky characters, were excited by the giant peach adventure, and practiced reading fluency as they followed the plot. I also enjoyed revisiting this classic from my own childhood — its imaginative world, gentle humor, and themes of friendship and courage make it a book that resonates across generations.\r\n\r\nYour gift is especially valuable because it supports multiple learning goals. The vivid characters and clear sequence of events make the book easy to use for guided reading lessons, comprehension questions, and vocabulary practice. Its memorable scenes encourage lively class discussions and cooperative reading activities, and the story's positive messages about resilience and teamwork are wonderful for social-emotional learning. Because it appeals to both children and adults, it will be a classroom favorite for years to come and can be reused with future classes as a trusted read-aloud.\r\n\r\nTogether, we read the story and answered questions that strengthened comprehension and critical thinking. Within minutes, we were outside collecting rainwater, observing, measuring, and asking questions—the kind of genuine scientific curiosity that doesn't always come naturally in traditional lessons. Your donation didn't just bring materials into our classroom; it brought the natural world to life for students who learn best through hands-on exploration. As we watched the barrel fill during our recent rain, I saw students who typically struggle with focus completely absorbed, conducting their own experiments and discoveries.\r\n\r\nOver the past weeks, your investment has transformed how we explore science. Students have used the acid rain and seed germination kit to investigate real environmental challenges, creating detailed observations in their write-and-wipe pockets and sharing findings with peers. The rain sticks, confetti rain balls, and bilingual art supplies have made learning multisensory and joyful—particularly for our students who need varied ways to process information. We've read Soft Rain and I Am the Rain, connecting stories and emotions to the water cycle in ways that resonate deeply. One student who rarely participates in group activities raised their hand unprompted to share what they learned about how rain affects plant growth. These moments of engagement and pride are exactly why differentiated, hands-on science matters for our SPED learners.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are just as exciting. We're planning a rain garden project where students will design and build a small garden to observe water filtration and plant growth firsthand. Your donation has given us the foundation and confidence to pursue bigger, bolder learning experiences. Thank you for believing that every student—especially those who learn differently—deserves rich, engaging science exploration. You've made that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1769177084443,"projectUrl":"project/rainy-day-science-hands-on-exploration/9933592/","projectTitle":"Rainy Day Science: Hands-On Exploration for Curious SPED Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tracy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10357955"},{"teacherId":10301918,"projectId":9793517,"letterContent":"The materials I received have added so much variability in our small group learning and whole class instruction. Let me start with small group learning, my children are very young, worksheets are usually not appropriate. They benefit from hands-on materials. This is where the donors come in. We were donated an alphabet fishing game, number quantity ice cream cones and lady bug sets. We received sand trays, which we use for students to begin writing letters and numbers (even words!).
