Your money funded our gaming consoles (PlayStation 5s and Nintendo Switches) and other supplies that we used to compete in our Esports matches. For those who may not know, Esports is simply competitive video games. Our students have the opportunity to play online matches against other schools in our time zone. This year we competed in Chess, NBA 2K25, Madden 25, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Rocket League. We also placed very well in a few of the Esports. We placed 2nd out of 78 teams in Mario Kart, 6th out of 41 teams in Rocket League, and 10th out of 152 teams in Super Smash Bros. This would not have been possible without your help.\r\n\r\nI think the most impactful thing that resulted from your donations is the community we formed through competing together. There were several students this year who were very dedicated to their team and improving themselves. There were many new friendships formed, and the bonds that started as just a common interest grew into genuine care for each other. They pushed each other to get better and helped each other when one was down. Working with these 7th and 8th grade students was not without its challenges, but they surprised me with how encouraging they can be with each other and how they unite together to win matches. \r\n\r\nThe students are also learning to set goals within their games to improve overall. This idea can be applied to other areas of life, such as sports, academics, and future goals. We used the SMART goal format to ensure that goals are specific, measurable, and reasonable. \r\n\r\nAgain, we cannot thank all of you enough for supporting our Esports program. You have given many students a place where they can thrive when they may not have been able to in other extracurricular activities. These students have shown up as leaders, and you have given them the opportunity to do so. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1730405177586,"projectUrl":"project/level-up-empowering-middle-school-espo/8857182/","projectTitle":"\"Level Up: Empowering Middle School Esports\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Brock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9825647"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50893","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":765,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":83.0,"schoolId":50893,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Douglas MacArthur Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Douglas MacArthur Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/jonesboro-public-schools/douglas-macarthur-junior-high-school/50893"}
