They were immediately drawn to the weighted stuffed animals, calming fidgets, and stress balls—each one eager to find the tool that worked best for them. I explained how these items were meant to help them stay focused, calm, and ready to learn, and it was heartwarming to see how seriously they took that responsibility. Students who used to fidget noisily or lose focus during lessons are now quietly engaging with a sensory sticker or squeezing a stress ball while still participating in class discussions and completing their work.\r\n\r\nThese tools have truly transformed the atmosphere in our classroom. The room feels calmer, and students are more aware of their emotions and how to manage them. During independent work time, I often see students take a deep breath, grab a sensory tool, and then refocus instead of giving up or getting frustrated. One student told me, \"This really helps me calm down when I feel overwhelmed.\" That simple statement captures exactly what I hoped this project would do—give students a sense of control and comfort in their learning space.\r\n\r\nAs we move into new lessons and group projects, these sensory supports continue to play an important role in helping every student participate and feel successful. I'm so grateful for the generosity of our donors for giving my students the chance to thrive not just academically, but emotionally as well. Your support has made our classroom a place where all learners can feel safe, focused, and ready to do their best every day.","fullyFundedDate":1759164784890,"projectUrl":"project/calm-focus-learn-help-us-build-a-sens/9468108/","projectTitle":"Calm, Focus, Learn: Help Us Build a Sensory-Friendly Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. K.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp312060_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1533923998328","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dkirkendall"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23623","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":839,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 7","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.4,"schoolId":23623,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Donald S Ray Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Donald S Ray Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/baldwinsville-central-school-district/donald-s-ray-middle-school/23623"}
