These resources helped us create more engaging, hands on learning experiences while also giving our students additional ways to play, explore, communicate, and regulate their emotions. The sensory materials, Play-Doh, and fine-motor tools have quickly become classroom favorites. Students are practicing important skills such as scooping, sorting, squeezing, manipulating objects, sharing materials, and taking turns - all while learning through play.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional and calming materials have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. We have been using the feelings resources to help students identify and talk about their emotions, while the cozy seating and sensory tools give them a comfortable space to take a break and calm their bodies when needed. Our dramatic-play materials, including the veterinarian and laundry sets, have encouraged so much imaginative play, language, cooperation, and problem-solving between students. It has been wonderful to watch them take on different roles and learn from one another.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we look forward to incorporating these materials into our classroom studies and learning centers in new ways. The sensory bins will change along with our topics of study, and our dramatic-play and social-emotional materials will continue to support students as they build independence, friendships, communication skills, and confidence. Thank you for helping us create a classroom where our youngest learners can learn, explore, and grow through meaningful play!","fullyFundedDate":1755837911185,"projectUrl":"project/i-see-and-feel-therefore-i-can/9578374/","projectTitle":"I See and Feel, Therefore I can","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cheung","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8659586_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661609049253","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8659586"},{"teacherId":3353866,"projectId":9317997,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for bringing the joy of music to our classroom! The arrival of the kazoos sparked immediate curiosity as my students explored their vibrant colors and shapes. The real magic happened during their \"aha\" moment, when they discovered that making sound required using their own unique voices. Now, our room is filled with laughter and music as the children collaborate on amazing group performances of their favorite songs, including \"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star\" and \"The Wheels on the Bus\". For nonverbal preschoolers, these devices are not just electronics—they are their voice. In a low-income community, buying a screen protector is often a financial hardship, and replacing a cracked screen, which means a damaged device, can lead a child to losing his ability to connect with teachers, peers, and family for weeks or months. \r\n\r\nYour donation has been a game-changer for our program in the following ways: \r\n\r\nEnsuring Consistent Communication: By protecting these essential tools from inevitable drops and daily wear-and-tear in a high-activity environment, you have ensured that our students do not experience interruptions in their ability to express their needs and thoughts. \r\nEmpowering Nonverbal Students: The screen protectors provide peace of mind to our staff, allowing us to encourage students to use their devices freely and confidently, knowing the technology is protected. \r\nThis year our devices came late in the school year, but they came all at once. Because of your donation we were able to prepare them all with the appropriate screen protectors from the beginning, a great benefit for all our AAC communicators. Because the screen protectors prevent damage from a drop, the students are able to use their devices in multiple settings such as playground and gym to request activities, which greatly reduces their frustration and increases their engagement with peers. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has done more than protect screens; you have protected our children's ability to interact with the world around them.","fullyFundedDate":1773984445030,"projectUrl":"project/protecting-their-voice/10160569/","projectTitle":"Protecting Their “Voice”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Monica","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7833266"},{"teacherId":3353866,"projectId":8553144,"letterContent":"I am writing to you to express my gratitude for your generosity towards our \"Music Classroom Makeover\" project: my students are enjoying music in a way they never have before. The supplies we have received transformed our music classroom room into a vibrant and engaging space, with music-themed details and educational posters. With your support, we were able to create a learning environment where all students learn and thrive.\r\nOne special moment happened with a student in my special education class who often struggles with handwriting and other fine motor skills. I caught him standing in front of our new, large-scale 'Music Symbols' poster. He was completely focused, using his index finger to slowly trace the swirl of the Treble Clef over and over again. The large, clear visuals allowed him to practice that difficult spiraling motion without the pressure of holding a pencil. He wasn't just learning a musical symbol; he was refining the fine motor control he needs for both writing and playing instruments.","fullyFundedDate":1726061223764,"projectUrl":"project/music-classroom-makeover/8553144/","projectTitle":"Music Classroom Makeover","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Novojilov","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3353866_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1671823664873","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3353866"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121687","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":82.0,"schoolId":121687,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about District 20 Pre-K Center 20Z112 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"District 20 Pre-K Center 20Z112","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/district-20-pre-k-center-20z112/121687"}
