The students really loved the penguins and ice cubes sensory building set, as well as building towers and castles with wooden blocks, then having the mix and match fire and construction vehicles come put out the fires and demolish the remains of buildings. They loved being silly and combining the vehicles in unexpected ways, like a fire-fighting-boat-plane, giggling over their accomplishments. It was fun seeing them learn how creating a sturdy base for tall buildings helps to keep the building stable so it was be built taller before intentionally knocking it down. Because of your support, our classroom now has materials that truly make a difference in our students' daily learning experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the materials during our circle time. The students now have alternative seating options instead of sitting only on the floor, which has helped many of them feel more comfortable and ready to participate. They are also enjoying using the fidgets and have begun using them when they need something to help them calm down and stay focused. The sand timers also really help resolve conflict during centers. \r\n\r\nOne specific classroom activity we are currently working on is independently reading a book. During this time, students choose their favorite seating option and look through books on their own or request that a teacher read a book to them. This has created a cozy and inviting space for students to explore books and develop a love for reading.\r\n\r\nThe students reacted to the new materials with lots of enthusiasm! The novelty of the items really made an impact on their learning. They were excited to explore the materials, and it has helped increase their engagement. Many students are now more motivated and self-driven during learning activities.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students are to continue building independence with classroom routines and learning how to choose the accommodations that work best for them. Whether it's getting a fidget or choosing an alternative seating option, we want students to become more independent and learn to self-advocate for their learning needs.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and for supporting our classroom. Your donation has made a positive impact on our learning environment and has helped foster a love of books and learning among our students.\r\n\r\nReading looks different for every student in our classroom. Some students are able to follow along and read with the teacher independently with minimal support, while other students require full support. For those students, the books have been adapted using PECS to help support their understanding and engagement. \r\n\r\nAt this time, all students are enjoying the new books and are excited about the novelty and beautiful illustrations. Students are independently selecting books, bringing them to their seats, or requesting that a teacher sit with them and read together. I love seeing their enthusiasm playing the boomwackers and xylophone, as well as their gentleness when playing the wooden frog rasps. The Viewmaster and collection of picture reels to view is a popular item in use daily, as is the pretend play kaleidoscope camera. The clear storage/organization bins have been very helpfull for students and adults in our classroom, keeping our materials for exploration and learning organized, visible, and accessible to students more efficiently.
