What began as a generous donation quickly became one of the most impactful tools we used all semester. Many of my students had never owned a book focused on financial literacy, and having a personal copy gave them both access and ownership over their learning. It shifted the mindset from \"this is just another class\" to something more personal and applicable to their real lives, especially as they prepare to graduate and make independent financial decisions.\r\n\r\nWe integrated the book into our curriculum as both a discussion anchor and a reflective tool. Students engaged with key concepts like long-term thinking, behavioral finance, and the role of emotions in money decisions. Rather than focusing purely on technical skills, the book allowed us to explore the \"why\" behind financial habits. Through guided discussions, journaling, and real-world connections, students began to recognize patterns in their own thinking and in the financial behaviors they observe around them. It created a space where students could openly talk about money in a way that felt relevant and judgment-free.\r\n\r\nThe lasting impact goes beyond the classroom. Many students expressed that this was the first time they truly understood how mindset influences financial success. As they leave high school, they are not just equipped with knowledge about budgeting or investing, but with a healthier, more thoughtful approach to money. This donation didn't just provide books—it helped build a foundation for smarter financial decision-making that will follow them into adulthood.","fullyFundedDate":1769639714775,"projectUrl":"project/personal-finance-psychology-of-money/10001861/","projectTitle":"Personal Finance Psychology of Money","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilbanks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7910031_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1627642674456","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7910031"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109631","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":907,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"32.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.1,"schoolId":109631,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Discovery High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Discovery High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/polk-county-school-district/discovery-high-school/109631"}
