This lab compared the growth of plants in two different mediums. One plant in soil and one plant in the hydroponic garden. The students measured the growth of the plants over time and compared the results to determine which medium had the best growth. Students truly enjoyed this hands-on lab and were excited to use the hydroponic garden. At the end of the investigation, we planted the crops such as dill and chives into our outdoor raised beds. \r\n\r\nThe students were very curious when they first saw the hydroponic garden. Most of them called it a \"time machine\" because of the incredibly bright lights. They asked lots of questions about how the garden worked and how we'd be using it. Students were excited to put the garden to use after it was assembled. \r\n\r\nMy next steps are to expand the use of the hydroponic garden to a year-round project. After learning how to use the garden this spring, I feel more confident in using it going forward. I have a plan for teaching students how to use and maintain the garden with intermittent supervision from me. I'll also be teaching them how to monitor the water quality and record the data such as pH of the water, electrical conductivity (EC), and ppM (parts per million) of nutrients in the water.","fullyFundedDate":1731539606999,"projectUrl":"project/hydroponic-garden-project/8649616/","projectTitle":"Hydroponic Garden Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Laws","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6741060_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723585299168","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6741060"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78289","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":267,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":45,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":84.4,"schoolId":78289,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dillon Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dillon Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/dillon-school-district-10/dillon-middle-school/78289"}
