We use these trays daily to practice letters and making words. The bright colors are engaging. The strong hold of the letters helps us waste less time by dropping letters when we walk. My district has noticed some themes in students' math scores at the end of the year and are working to make improvements. As a 1st grade teacher I know that I can do my part by laying a solid foundation in our learners. This year and beyond I want to make my math lessons fun, engaging and hands on. I want students to learn different strategies and select the best one(s) for themselves. I want students to take ownership of their understanding and the tools available to them to be successful. \r\n\r\nYour help has allowed me to purchase and read Building Thinking Classrooms to further develop as a professional by acquiring new strategies. The book has encouraged me to think more creatively about how I instruct math concepts. Moving forward I will strive to move beyond encouraging memorization and instead encourage critical thinking. This successful project has also allowed me to begin creating math toolboxes for students to use. The math toolboxes are easily accessible by students and contain tools that they can use to support them in their learning. It is a work in progress but so far they have dry-erase materials and charts/diagrams to help them visualize their thinking. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your support, it is greatly appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1750950622568,"projectUrl":"project/mathematicians-in-the-making/9389638/","projectTitle":"Mathematicians in the Making!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Doss","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8473337_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x391,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695267360283","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8473337"},{"teacherId":7880890,"projectId":8499020,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in bringing new shelving and comfy seating to our classroom! The cozy seating has created inviting reading nooks where students can relax, focus, and enjoy their time with a good book or during independent work.\r\n\r\nThese changes have made our classroom feel more like a homeāone where students feel comfortable, calm, and ready to learn.
