Your donations have already made a meaningful impact on my students and the way we learn together. This school year, we have used the poster paper, acrylic markers, and paint supplies for several assignments and mini-projects that allow students to express their learning in creative, hands-on ways.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were especially excited about the opportunity to use the paints and acrylic markers. Having access to these supplies opened up new possibilities for our classroom projects and gave students something creative to look forward to. In the past, many of these assignments would have typically been completed by creating a slideshow on a computer. Instead, we have been able to put our screens aside and create physical works of art to demonstrate their understanding of various topics. My students have enjoyed making creative choices, experimenting with different materials, and producing something tangible that they can be proud of.\r\n\r\nOne project that has been especially meaningful was a large Phoenix Memorial honoring the victims and reflecting on the events of September 11th. Using our poster paper, paint, and acrylic markers, we created a large piece of artwork that has been displayed in the hallway outside our classroom for over a month. Other students and faculty members have been able to stop, admire the project, and reflect on the significance of this important historical event. \r\n\r\nWe have already put these materials to good use, and I look forward to continuing to incorporate more hands-on projects into our history and geography lessons throughout the year. Our next steps are to keep finding ways to turn historical topics into creative, engaging learning experiences that allow students to collaborate, think critically, and take pride in what they produce. The collapsible rolling tote has also been a helpful addition, making it easier to transport and organize materials for our projects.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and helping make these opportunities possible. Your generosity has helped us move beyond the computer screen and create meaningful work that students can share with others. Most importantly, you have helped make our classroom a place where students can learn in different ways, explore their creativity, and feel proud of what they accomplish. Although they are a very visual generation, their pictures \"live\" in their phones and in the cloud. When they saw the mats and backing boards, they were very excited at how \"legit\" matting their photos would make them look.\r\n\r\nWe have had an extra challenge this semester, since the state of Maine passed a law against cell phones in school. Our photography program only has four working cameras, so this project took longer than was expected, since students had to share the class' cameras. The main subjects of the photos turned out to be Homecoming, the nearby playground, school grounds, and the school itself; the beauty of Maine in the fall and our lake were also subjects.\r\n\r\nThis was a class with some students who are quite challenged by school; the positive impact of seeing their photographs displayed both in school and in the town library was powerful. Some students who do not excel in academics or athletics had a chance to shine. Having something they produced printed and nicely matted and displayed was a very positive and empowering experience for them. All of the students are now more confident in taking photos and sharing their work.\r\n\r\nThey are continuing their work this semester with units on portraits, pet photography, product photography, creative photography, and posing (this is a popular topic since senior photos are on their mind.)\r\n\r\nThis project will have a further impact since there are enough mats left that the second semester photography class will also be able to mat and display their photos.\r\n\r\nThank you so very much for the opportunity that your generous donation provided these students and next semester's students.","fullyFundedDate":1779278810194,"projectUrl":"project/photography-on-display/10282971/","projectTitle":"Photography on display","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brzustowicz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10508304"},{"teacherId":3343789,"projectId":10285544,"letterContent":"Just wanted to say thank you for helping to make our classroom dissections safer. The shiny new dissecting scissors and clean intact lab aprons give our lab a more professional feel. We really appreciate your help and support. As these wonderful materials arrived toward the end of last school year, they became the ultimate launchpad for our first five weeks of school this fall.\r\n\r\nIn our rural district, funding is extremely tight—we recently had to eliminate a full-time English position, with a retired teacher stepping back in part-time just to help cover classes. Without your support, these supplies would have come directly out of my own pocket. Having these resources delivered to our classroom has made a world of difference.\r\n\r\nBefore diving into heavy academic content, I wanted my students to understand how they learn best. \"Using the Executive Functioning Workbook for Kids, Thriving with ADHD Workbook for Teens,\" and \"A Teen's Guide to Life Skills,\" we spent these initial weeks exploring what Executive Functioning (EF) actually means.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments came while completing a self-assessment survey from the EF workbook. As students were going through the questions, one student looked at their paper and blurted out, \"Oh, this is definitely 'always' a problem for me!\" Immediately, students around the room spoke up in agreement: \"Oh, yeah, me too.\" It was a great shared moment of understanding for my students, recognizing their mutual struggles. My students—both with and without an ADHD diagnosis—are realizing that having a brain that works differently isn't a flaw; it just means they need the understanding, tools, and appropriate applications of each.\r\n\r\nLooking at the photos, you'll see our workbooks filled with sticky note tabs on popular topics that I review with individual students, as well as surveys filled out by all students. You'll also see students using Bananagrams during specialized IEP instruction, working hard to organize letters and build larger words. As our daily classroom routines solidify over the coming weeks, we will also begin rolling out our cursive workbooks to strengthen fine-motor focus and written expression.\r\n\r\nThrough your generous donation, you have given a group of traditionally overlooked students non-traditional knowledge pathways, self-awareness, dignity, and a clear path toward independence. The ELECFREAKS Smart Agriculture Kit lets students use sensors to explore real-world applications such as monitoring temperature, light, and environmental conditions. The Cutebot robots allow students to program movement, sensors, and decision-making. The Keyestudio kit adds opportunities to experiment with buttons, LEDs, displays, and other micro features. Together, these materials help students see that coding isn't just about writing code—it is about creating technology that interacts with the real world.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is seeing their code produce an immediate, physical result. They build robots, program them to complete challenges, and troubleshoot when things don't work as expected. Students who may not initially connect with traditional computer science have especially embraced these hands-on projects. They are developing creativity, collaboration, persistence, and problem-solving skills while gaining confidence as programmers and engineers.
