It has been a lot of work preparing and firing several hundred student sculptures, but it has been WORTH IT! Every single student has been engaged in the hands-on creation. I have seen students who struggle academically excel at sculpting. It's amazing! Thinking about how they looked when I bragged on their work brings tears to my eyes. Some of them rarely hear praise. I hope to teach ceramics on a yearly basis because of how the students benefit. They've also been very interested in the firing process and how the kiln works.
