When I first introduced the store concept to our students, their eyes lit up with excitement and curiosity. The immediate response was overwhelmingly positive, with students eagerly asking questions about how they could earn \"PBIS Points\" and what items would be available for purchase. This initial enthusiasm has transformed into sustained motivation, as students actively work to demonstrate positive behaviors throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThe implementation of the store has created meaningful opportunities for teaching real-world financial literacy and decision-making skills. Students are learning to save their PBIS points for larger items rather than spending them immediately on smaller rewards. I've observed students carefully counting their earnings, making budgets, and even having thoughtful discussions with their peers about saving strategies. This practical application of math and financial planning has been an unexpected but valuable educational outcome of the store's implementation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to expand the store's impact by incorporating student leadership roles. We will be selecting student store managers who will help operate the store during designated times, teaching them valuable skills in organization, customer service, and basic business operations. Additionally, we're developing a system where students can suggest new store items, creating a sense of ownership and involvement in the process. The success of this initiative has encouraged us to explore other positive behavior reinforcement strategies that can complement our store system and further enhance our school's supportive learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1730660362478,"projectUrl":"project/pbis-store-for-7th-grade-students/8915541/","projectTitle":"PBIS Store for 7th Grade Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. AGUINALDO","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9823834_orig.jpg?crop=1152,1152,x0,y407&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730564515243","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9823834"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41966","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":720,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":83,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.9,"schoolId":41966,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Desert Horizon Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Desert Horizon Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/pendergast-elementary-school-district/desert-horizon-elementary-school/41966"}
