Because of your contributions, we were able to create meaningful opportunities for students to connect with one another, build new friendships, and feel a stronger sense of belonging within our school community.\r\n\r\nThe project was a great success. Many students were able to engage with both familiar friends and new peers through structured activities that encouraged communication, teamwork, and kindness. One particularly memorable moment was watching students who typically keep to themselves open up during group activities and form new connections.\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the materials and activities, they were excited and eager to participate. The welcoming environment helped them feel comfortable, and their enthusiasm was evident throughout the project.\r\n\r\nAs a result of these efforts, we have seen a significant positive impact—reports of bullying have decreased by nearly 80%, and there have been far fewer new incidents. This has made our classroom and school a safer, more supportive place for everyone.\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue building on this momentum by incorporating more collaborative projects and social-emotional learning activities into our lessons. Having access to basic care items during the school day helps students feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn—needs that are often easy to overlook but incredibly important for student well-being and focus. Items like deodorant, toothbrushes, lotion, and other hygiene essentials can make a big difference in students' confidence and ability to participate in school without worry.\r\n\r\nWe have set up the station in a discreet and welcoming space so students can access what they need privately and without embarrassment. Afterward, they said they felt much better and more comfortable for the rest of the day. Moments like that show just how important these resources are.\r\n\r\nStudents are relieved to know there was a place they could go if they ever needed something. It also opened up conversations about self-care, personal responsibility, and taking care of ourselves so we can focus on learning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the station as part of our classroom and counseling environment to support students' well-being. Unfortunately, one of the mentors earlier in the week encountered a tough situation at school, didn't make all of the right choices, and received a consequence for it. I called in all of the mentors before the mentees arrived to ask how we should address this. The mentors conferenced and decided that they should open a dialogue to first hear whatever rumors the mentees had heard about the situation before squashing those rumors. Then, they would hold the fellow mentor accountable, stating outright that he made some poor choices and was not in the right, but that we all had enough respect for him to ensure that he could speak for himself at the following meeting. Finally, they would wrap up the conversation by underscoring that every person in that space was responsible for their own actions. \r\n\r\nIn my head, I figured two of the mentors who had been mentors the longest would be the ones to lead the conversation. However, when we opened the floor, the newest mentor stepped in and led one of the most remarkable student-led conversations I've seen in 13 years of teaching. It was honest, it was brave, it was authentic, and it was really, really impressive.
