Students daily are struggling with dealing with so much and we have seen a significant increase in anxiety and stress levels in students of all ages. As a Mental Health Therapist working for the school district, part of my role is to help these students have a safe and caring space to work on coping skills, stress management and improving ways to cope with school, personal and life stressors. The materials that were sponsored already are making a difference in my therapy space. The feeling sensory bottles have been used individually and also in a group I lead. Students have really enjoyed playing the Emotion Domino game and has facilitated some good conversations about feelings and positive ways to express these emotions. The students love the sensory stickers and balls which they are using to help with implementing coping skills when feeling upset. From school and family stressors, peer issues, past trauma and so many other things, students are dealing with so much when they come on campus. Having a safe space to work through feelings as well as build skills is so important in helping them cope with all the stressors they deal with on a daily basis as well as feel heard and seen. From the fidget tools to therapeutic cards, the students have really gotten alot out of all the sponsored materials. They have really enjoyed the rock painting supplies and learning about how art can be used to cope with stress and reduce anxiety.
