Reusable water bottles help them stay hydrated throughout the day, while socks, deodorant, and body wipes are available whenever a student needs them. Mints provide a small pick-me-up and help students feel fresh and prepared to interact with classmates and teachers.\r\n\r\nMy students were excited and grateful when they saw the new supplies. More importantly, these items are available discreetly, without students having to explain their circumstances or feel embarrassed. Meeting these basic needs removes distractions and allows students to focus more fully on their schoolwork.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, students will use these resources during regular school days, after athletics and activities, and whenever an unexpected need arises. Pencils are also always available whenever students need one. These resources may seem simple, but they have made a meaningful difference—especially for students whose families cannot afford school supplies. No student has to ask for help, feel embarrassed, or stand out. Everyone has the same materials and can focus on learning.\r\n\r\nMy students were excited to receive their supplies and quickly made the binders their own. We use them daily as we work through the writing process, practice grammar skills, organize evidence, and revise written responses. One of my favorite moments has been watching students confidently pull out their organized notes when they need help instead of immediately saying, \"I don't know.\"\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building their binders into personalized writing resources they can use throughout the school year. As they complete essays, reflections, and revisions, they will be able to see how much their writing has grown. Because of your generosity, my students now have easy access to snacks and water when they need a little extra fuel during the school day. The beef jerky, crackers, Nutella, and bottled water have already made a difference. Students were excited when they saw everything arrive, but more importantly, they immediately understood that someone outside our school cared enough to make sure they had what they needed to be successful.\r\n\r\nThese resources are available to students during class, tutoring, counseling visits, and after-school activities. Sometimes a student has skipped breakfast, had an early lunch, or simply needs something to help them make it through a long afternoon. Being able to quietly offer a snack or bottle of water removes one small barrier and allows that student to refocus on reading, writing, completing assignments, or preparing for what comes next. It has also created opportunities for me to remind students that taking care of their basic needs is part of being ready to learn.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will be working toward academic goals, preparing for college and careers, and developing the skills they need beyond high school. Your contribution helps make our classroom a place where students feel supported and cared for while doing that work.
