Students are using the Ticonderoga pencils every day as they solve equations, graph functions, and explain their mathematical thinking. The classroom sharpener has made a noticeable difference by keeping students prepared with sharp pencils and minimizing interruptions during lessons. One of the biggest highlights has been using the large magnetic graphing surface during our lessons on the coordinate plane and linear relationships. As we worked through graphing ordered pairs, identifying slopes, and modeling real-world situations with linear equations, students were able to clearly see each step projected on the whiteboard. Many students volunteered to come to the board to place points, draw lines, and explain their reasoning to their classmates, making lessons much more interactive and engaging.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were genuinely excited. They immediately noticed the high-quality pencils and commented on how smoothly they wrote compared to the ones they had been using. The classroom pencil sharpener quickly became an unexpected favorite. Students were fascinated by how it automatically pulls the pencil into the sharpener, sharpens it, and then gently pushes it back out when it's finished. They couldn't wait to try it, and it quickly became a fun little moment in our classroom while also making the sharpening process much faster and less distracting. The magnetic graphing surface also generated a lot of enthusiasm, with students eager to see how it would be used during math lessons. As soon as we began using it, they were more engaged and confident in participating because the visual models made abstract concepts easier to understand. These new resources have helped create a classroom where students can spend less time worrying about supplies and more time developing their mathematical skills and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1773980447189,"projectUrl":"project/math-mania/10146777/","projectTitle":"Math Mania","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Halweg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10461827"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52220","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":437,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":57.6,"schoolId":52220,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Decorah Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Decorah Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/decorah-community-school-district/decorah-middle-school/52220"}
