Body work including mindful breathing, yoga, and so on are evidence-based approaches to helping those experiencing trauma to process what they are going through in a way that addresses the physiological as well as the emotional aspects of trauma. Students felt more grounded in their chairs when using the meditation cushions and I did notice that the groups that used the cushions were calmer and more focused than those that did not. The items we received have been helping to making meaningful differences for students and will continue to do so.\r\n\r\n Deep breathing is always a difficult practice to implement with children, particularly the littles, but by reading books while practicing, it makes this concept more concrete and meaningful for them while also helping them develop language and reading skills. The students even asked if next time they can take turns reading the book and leading our breathing so I would say in the end, this has been a huge win and a huge help! Thank you so much for helping me to help them. These kids are incredible and deserve only the best. You have helped me give that to them.","fullyFundedDate":1726663306576,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-through-mindful-practice/8737402/","projectTitle":"Self-Regulation Through Mindful Practice","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3457621_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714775502371","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cassandrajacksonatdz"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14726","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":591,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":88,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":79.0,"schoolId":14726,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about De Zavala Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"De Zavala Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/san-marcos-consolidated-independent-school-district/de-zavala-elementary-school/14726"}
