Because of your kindness, my students have had meaningful opportunities to learn through play in ways that truly support their growth and joy. Your donation has made a lasting impact on our classroom and has enriched our daily learning experiences.\r\nThrough this project, my students have strengthened their social skills by learning how to cooperate, communicate, take turns, and solve problems together during play. They are engaging in conversations with peers more confidently and practicing empathy and teamwork in authentic, hands-on ways. These experiences have helped build a positive classroom community where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and working together.\r\nIn addition, Play is Powerful has supported letter knowledge and literacy development as students explore letters naturally through play-based activities. They are recognizing letters, making connections to sounds, and using language creatively. Most importantly, their imaginations have flourished—students are creating stories, pretending, and thinking creatively every day. Thank you for believing in the power of play and for helping my students learn, grow, and imagine. The students absolutely loved using the rhythm sticks to new songs on the CD. \r\nThe wrist ribbons were the favorite among most of the students. These inspired so much creativity. We use the LEGO and STEM construction kits during structured small-group centers as well as open-ended exploration time. My students are actively strengthening fine motor skills such as grasping, pinching, and hand-eye coordination. Even more powerful is watching students practice cooperation and communication—skills that are often difficult for my students. They are taking turns, sharing pieces, and explaining their ideas, and learning how to compromise when their plans differed. Students who typically struggle with attention or frustration are able to remain engaged for extended periods of time because the materials are motivating and developmentally appropriate.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the LEGO and STEM construction kits, their reactions were priceless. Eyes widened, hands shot into the air, and the room buzzed with excitement and curiosity. Several students exclaimed, \"Are those for us?\" and \"Can we build today?\" That initial excitement quickly turned into focused engagement as they began exploring the materials. For some students, this was their first experience with building toys of this kind, and they approached the kits with both wonder and determination. I noticed increased confidence almost immediately—students proudly showed their creations to peers and adults, eager to explain how they built them and what challenges they overcame. The materials also helped foster a sense of belonging and teamwork; students naturally invited classmates to join them, offered help, and celebrated one another's successes. The joy and pride they felt were clear reminders of how meaningful hands-on learning can be, especially for young learners who benefit from tactile and visual experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1763583124695,"projectUrl":"project/building-young-engineers-with-lego-and-s/9842849/","projectTitle":"Building Young Engineers With LEGO and STEM Construction Kits!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Edwards","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2644071_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763558379973","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amanda-edwards"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_86879","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":394,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":27,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":14,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":86879,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Davis Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Davis Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/davis-public-schools/davis-elementary-school/86879"}
