Our Literacy Initiative has been taking off. Students are enjoying using Tonie boxes to embrace reading and their imaginations. Students have been using the boxes during WIN instruction, which stands for What I Need, in the classroom. I am so grateful to donors choose and Extra Yard for helping fund our classroom. We now have comfortable seating areas in the classroom for reading times. The students love them and take care to treat the new furniture with care. They take turns sitting on the special seats in class and it is a place of comfort for them. In addition, the purchase of class novel sets have already been read. With the grant I purchased two class sets that gave every student in the fifth grade a novel in their hands. We choose \"I Survived: American Revolution\" because of the extension it would provide for the social studies unit on the American Revolution. The students sincerely loved this novel and I feel that many students have caught the reading bug with this book. They are asking to read after work completion constantly. The additions in my classroom are precious to our students and have added to a happy classroom climate.
