In the past three months, have been able to distribute roughly 160 snacks to students. The care closet in my classroom has been accessed by students and families 177 times. I have received lots of positive feedback and gratitude from teachers, students, and families for providing resources for kids when they are in need. I never want my students to feel like they have to sit through the rest of the day feeling hungry, and funding this project has helped provide them the feeling of food security and full bellies to help them learn throughout the day. This project has also helped students from kindergarten through 5th grade understand the difference between a 'want' and a 'need' which can be a tricky concept for many to grasp.\r\nUnderstanding this difference helps children build more empathy for others once they are able to recognize why someone may need more resources. It also helps students build compassion for one another, as they notice when their classmates may be feeling hungry or didn't bring a snack to school one day and they can walk them to the care closet without any judgement, shame, or stigma attached. \r\nMy hope is that when students have what they need or know when to ask for what they need, they will be much more likely to thrive in school. My role as their counselor is not only to support them emotionally and socially, but to also support them with getting their basic needs met so they can be their best selves, each day. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this happen.","fullyFundedDate":1755382442864,"projectUrl":"project/brain-food-for-hungry-kids/9597297/","projectTitle":"Brain Food for Hungry Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lily","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10177888"},{"teacherId":16027,"projectId":5592080,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your colored pencils, playdough, crayons, and paper.
