Your donation helped to fund our sorely needed new rest mats and classroom materials that are keeping our youngest students happily engaged in learning. Our 45 minute quiet time has been made more comfortable and the new mats are spacious for our more active resters who like to read and write during quiet time. \r\n As the packages arrived to our classroom, the children enjoyed ceremoniously guessing what the contents could be. Great chuckles would errupt when I would ask if they thought it was a skunk!. LOL Their excitment and joy in discovering the contents are some of my most memorable moments of this school year. We are learning about books, book handling and reading. I teach the youngest learners in our school. We read a lot of books in whole groups but also allow children to explore and tell their own stories as they read books during center time. The children love when we are able to change out books to go with a new theme almost as much as they enjoy the familiar favorites that they can recite word for word because they have heard them so much. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher and parent, I know that the books that are read to them increase their vocabulary, encourage a love of reading and affect the ways that they communicate. The books that are chosen also have characters that are diverse and it is so important for students to see themselves in the classroom and in literature. \r\n\r\nBooks can be expensive and hard to maintain with little ones. I could not provide the same variety without your support.
