For many of our students this club has introduced them to their first experience with knitting. It has been a challenging exercise in fine motor skills, giving my students a critical outlet for developing dexterity and hand-eye coordination. \r\n\r\nStudents were excited from the first meeting to see all the lovely high quality yarns. Working with these vibrant colors and soft textures was a full sensory experience and captured their attention and imagination. Students were able to create lovely hats for themselves, that they can wear with pride in their accomplishment of a new skill. Some were even fast enough to create a second hat to donate. Conversation about where to donate the second set of hats was thought provoking and led students to suggest that they be given to those closest to us in need, students at our own school. They were given to our school counselor to give to anyone in need of a warm hat or just a gesture of kindness from our club. \r\n\r\nAlong with the lovely yarns these funds allowed us to invest in a permanent set of knitting looms, ensuring we will be able to continue the Fiber Arts Club for years to come. The yarns purchased were in excess of this clubs needs for the first round and will be used for a second round of this club!\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, your donation has given students a chance to cultivate relationships with students in other classes and grade levels that they would not otherwise interact with in a typical school day. As we sit in our knitting circle there is laughter, kindness, and support. Every knitting session students grew in skill and friendship, celebrating each other's progress and lending a helping hand. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donation, without which we would be unable to have these unique and wonderful opportunities!","fullyFundedDate":1763936250274,"projectUrl":"project/fiber-arts-and-service/9876491/","projectTitle":"Fiber Arts and Service","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10207117"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52590","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":411,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":52590,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dalton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dalton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/coeur-d-alene-public-schools/dalton-elementary-school/52590"}
