The equipment for the camping loaner program allows the students and their families to go camping after participating in a training program. The training program can take the form of a half-day in-person training or a weekend family camping trip with me and Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Outdoor Family (TOF) program providing the training.\r\n\r\nThis past weekend was the first family camping trip with TOF since establishing the equipment loaner program. Eleven families (19 adults and 24 students) participated. Those eleven families now have the opportunity to go camping on their own without having to purchase equipment. They can borrow the equipment when needed. The tents will also be used as rewards for student academic achievement for a student camping \"lock-in\" on campus at the end of academic terms. \r\n\r\n Students used the backpacks to learn how to properly adjust and fit backpacks. The students will also use the backpacks as part of their physical fitness program by adding weight to the backpacks hand hiking around campus.
