There is something powerful about every child turning the same page at the same time, gasping together at the larger-than-life characters and laughing at Roald Dahl's whimsical humor. With these books, we are diving deep into character traits, theme, point of view, and figurative language. My students are learning how authors use vivid descriptions and imaginative settings to build a story, and they are practicing important comprehension skills like making inferences, visualizing scenes, and citing evidence directly from the text. These are big skills for little readers, and having a shared class set makes meaningful instruction possible.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks magical right now. During whole-group lessons, students eagerly track the text with their fingers, whisper-reading favorite lines. In small groups, they are discussing whether James is brave or simply hopeful, and supporting their opinions with proof from the chapter. I've watched students close their eyes to picture the enormous peach rolling down the hill, then excitedly sketch what they imagined. There's a buzz of curiosity and joy that only comes when a story truly captures children's hearts.\r\n\r\nThere are a few students who have especially blossomed during this unit. One of my more reluctant readers now rushes to grab his book each afternoon, proudly announcing how many pages he read the night before. Another student, who often struggles with confidence, beams when she volunteers to read dialogue aloud using dramatic expression. This book has given them not just literacy skills, but confidence, imagination, and a shared experience they will remember. Thank you for placing these stories into their hands and for helping us grow not only as readers, but as dreamers.","fullyFundedDate":1769218886484,"projectUrl":"project/a-reading-adventure/9985473/","projectTitle":"A Reading Adventure!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hulse","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9115365_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690405837833","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9115365"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62635","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":730,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":11,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.2,"schoolId":62635,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cunningham Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cunningham Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/st-johns-county-school-district/cunningham-creek-elementary-school/62635"}
