They were fascinated by our blood typing analysis, chromatography, and fingerprinting, and couldn't wait to see what we were doing each week!\r\nEvery student has personally expressed interest in learning more about a type of forensic science, and one student stated, \"This gives me motivation to work hard now.\" Another student stated that she didn't think she could afford college and that depressed her but now she realizes there are several options for her future.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for opening the doors for their futures. Look at it go!\" \"Did you just see that?\" These are just two of the phrases my students stated as their rockets took off :) \r\nWe just started our straw rocket project, and I couldn't wait to share my students' stories of success. First, we chose to test different rocket fin shapes to see if a certain shape or shapes helped increase the rocket's range. My students tested their designs with table-top launchers. After comparing data, we found that two shapes, the triangle and rhombus, had the greatest ranges and decided to try those fin shapes with the giant rocket launcher. My students loved this experiment and enjoyed collecting and comparing data. Next up, we will try the mass of nose cones and see if that affects the rocket's range. My students also suggested we try different types of straws.\r\nI cannot begin to thank you enough for helping me bring this project to my students. I loved watching them explore, test, and collaborate as they examined their data collections. I was also blown away by how they are creating new tests with various materials for us to try.\r\nThank you for helping my young scientists to gain the skills they need to confidently change the world. This project was definitely SUPER!! My students learned about the STEAM career of being a prosthetist by taking a virtual field trip to a lab where they made a prosthetic device for a child. We then examined \"superhero\" prosthetic devices made for children.\r\nUp next, my students were given their superhero patients and learned what leg had been amputated and the requirements for the superhero's prosthetic device. We then took measurements of the legs and created paper prosthetic legs. My students added the superhero elements and the patient's color preferences.\r\nMeasurement is a tough skill for third graders, and this project allowed them to see why measurement is important and how it can be applied to a real-life situation. Also, because our virtual field trip showed how many people are involved in the creation of the prosthetic device - my students' interests were piqued by various STEAM careers.\r\nThis SUPER project was truly just a dream I had to help my students learn about STEAM careers and apply their skills to a real-life project. Because of your amazing generosity that dream became a reality. Your kindness has opened the doors of possibilities for my students' futures. Thank you for believing in us!
