The notebooks give students a safe, consistent place to reflect, set goals, and process their emotions through writing and drawing—skills that directly support focus, self-regulation, and academic readiness. The classroom furnishings have helped create a calmer, more welcoming environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and participating. When students feel emotionally secure and physically comfortable, they are more engaged, more willing to collaborate, and better able to concentrate on learning tasks throughout the day.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is how these items make the classroom feel like a space that truly belongs to them. The rewards and snacks have been especially powerful motivators, reinforcing positive behavior and helping students practice perseverance, kindness, and responsibility. Some students who previously struggled with attention or emotional regulation have responded particularly well—they eagerly use the notebooks to express feelings they might not otherwise share, and the incentives help them stay motivated during challenging moments. Overall, this bundle has supported both the emotional and academic growth of my students, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a stronger connection to school.","fullyFundedDate":1746786452602,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-support-bundle/9194437/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Support Bundle","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9033358_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683645202470","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/esolwithwalker"},{"teacherId":8849427,"projectId":9713751,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the dictionaries! Your donation arrived at a time when maintaining a clean and healthy learning environment is especially important due to ongoing respiratory concerns in our school community. Because of you, my students now have the tools they need to take an active role in keeping our classroom safe while continuing to engage deeply in hands-on science learning.\r\n\r\nWe are using the microfiber clothes, disinfectant sprays, wipes, and cleaners throughout the day, particularly between class periods. With students rotating in and out of the room for science, shared tables, lab stations, and materials need frequent sanitizing. What has been most meaningful is that students truly took this responsibility upon themselves. Without being prompted, students began wiping down desks, lab tools, and dry erase pockets as soon as the bell rang. Students have adopted a spirit of \"Let's sanitize before the next class comes in—GERMS & COVID.\" That moment reflected both their maturity and their growing awareness of how science connects to real-life health and safety. The students have been also tracking viruses in our area and making note that their peers are getting sick!\r\n\r\nThe dry erase pockets and dry erase markers have become a core part of our daily science instruction. We use them for recording hypotheses, labeling diagrams, analyzing data, and answering reflection questions. \r\nBeing able to erase and revise allowed students to focus on learning rather than worrying about making mistakes. It also made it easy to sanitize materials quickly between classes, which is critical right now.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reaction was a mix of excitement and relief. They recognized immediately that these resources were meant to help protect them and their classmates. Several students commented that the disinfectant wipes and sprays made them feel safer! Others were excited about the dry erase pockets and markers, saying they felt more like \"real scientists\" having reusable tools to work with. Many students asked if they could help organize the supplies, and they proudly set up a system to make sure everything is cleaned and ready for the next group.\r\n\r\nBy contributing to our project, you truly got a peek into what daily life looks like in our science classroom. You supported not just learning, but also student responsibility, empathy, and problem-solving. These materials have allowed us to continue doing labs and interactive lessons without sacrificing health or safety. Instead of limiting activities, we've been able to adapt and move forward confidently.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps include a multi-week where we will investigate how environmental factors, such as air quality, impact the respiratory system. They will collect data, analyze trends, and discuss real-world solutions. The dry erase pockets will be used for daily check-ins, data tables, and group analysis before students transfer their final conclusions into science notebooks. This approach encourages collaboration, reflection, and scientific thinking.\r\n\r\nThe microfiber clothes, disinfectant sprays, wipes, and cleaners will continue to play a crucial role as students rotate through lab stations and classes throughout the day. Students now understand that being a scientist includes maintaining a clean workspace and protecting the well-being of others. These lessons extend far beyond science content and help shape them into thoughtful, responsible individuals.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and for supporting both science education and student health. Your contribution has made a real and lasting difference in our classroom, and my students are grateful every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1757544149739,"projectUrl":"project/schools-back-in-lets-get-ready-to-lear/9469937/","projectTitle":"Schools Back In! I has been amazing to be able to give my students images in color so they can clearly see the meaning of an idea. My students are so excited that they are able to have images in color. There are a few very complicated ideas that in past years my students struggled to understand because they couldn't see the differences in black and white. Now they can see and understand the differences.\r\n\r\nThis printer has also been a lifesaver on days when the wifi is down and I cannot print straight to the school printer. I can make one paper on this printer and then use that to make lots and lots of copies. These tools have helped my students better understand complex concepts and stay more organized. The pencils and scissors have also been incredibly useful—simple, everyday tools that often run short in a busy classroom. Having a steady supply has made hands-on activities and assignments much smoother, without the usual scramble for basic supplies.\r\n\r\nThe Crayola markers have sparked creativity across all grade levels and subject areas. Whether students are working on group projects, designing posters, or adding visual elements to presentations, the quality and variety of colors help them express their ideas in more meaningful ways. The access to basic tools allowed them to stay organized and really take ownership of their creative process. One student even commented, \"This notebook is just for my ideas—I feel like a real writer!\"\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nThey lit up! Many of my students face financial hardships, and having access to new, quality materials felt like a gift. There was excitement in the air as we unpacked everything. It was a touching reminder that even small things can make a big difference.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nWe're now moving into our performance phase—students are rehearsing their monologues and small group scenes, using the donated materials to build character journals, props, and even some simple costume elements. This is the first year our school has offered this advanced-level course, and your generosity made it possible for my students to work with professional materials like charcoal pencils, pastel chalks, Prismacolor pencils, kneaded erasers, and toned mixed media paper—supplies that truly elevated their work.\r\n\r\nOur first major project after receiving the materials was the Woven Contrast Drawing, where students combined two images into a balanced collage, weaving together grayscale and color. They carefully gridded and enlarged their images, pushing their skills in shading, texture, and composition. Having high-quality materials gave them the freedom to take creative risks, and the final pieces are some of the strongest works I've seen from them. One student reflected, \"I had no idea how this would turn out, but seeing the images so big makes them feel impactful across the room. I used so much Prismacolor and graphite for this, and my efforts paid off.\"\r\n\r\nSince this is a new course, I have made student input a big part of our process. Giving them autonomy over the concepts and materials has made the learning more meaningful—they're not just meeting standards; they are discovering their artistic voices.\r\n\r\nNow, we are carrying that momentum into our next project, using the canvas boards and gouache paints you helped provide as students create focused textured object studies.
