Many of my students are still developing their English skills and reading grade-level books can feel overwhelming. Graphic novels help bridge the gap by combining illustrations with the text, allowing students to use visual clues to understand the story, learn new vocabulary, and build confidence as readers. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is about much more than understanding the words on the page. Students practice making inferences, identifying characters and important events, summarizing, and connecting ideas to their own lives and experiences. We also work on sequencing events, discussing themes, and using evidence from the text to support our ideas. Our current novel is about a young boys journey to find his brother and sister. The book is not in chronological order, se we are making a map of his journey on the wall and including the people, events, emotions, and fears along the way. The visual helps us see his journey in chronological order.\r\n\r\nIt's exciting to see my students who have struggled with traditional books in English engage fully with these books. Many have commented about how nice it is not to have to worry about running out of supplies or not having them at school when they need them.\r\nMany of my students from families whose income falls below the poverty line and they do not have the extra funds to provide the necessary products that the students need to stay fresher throughout the day. \r\nThank you for providing this opportunity as it beneficial for the entire population, not just a few. This platform made it easy and things were shipped quickly once the financial marker was met.
