As a first time project through Donor's Choose, I am overwhelmed by kindness that I have received from you. My students' learning means everything to me and I'm so grateful there are people out there willing to contribute to the future. The manga version of Macbeth introduces several important skills and lessons in ways that feel more accessible to students who typically resist traditional texts. Students are still engaging with Shakespeare's core themes—ambition, power, guilt, and fate—but the visual format helps them better follow the plot, understand character motivations, and interpret tone and mood. The combination of images and text also strengthens skills like visual literacy, inference, and sequencing, which are often overlooked but essential for comprehension. Many students who struggle with longer, dense readings are able to grasp the story more quickly and confidently when it is presented in this format.\r\nReading in my classroom has become more interactive and student-centered with these new texts. Instead of silently struggling through pages, students are actively discussing scenes, analyzing illustrations alongside dialogue, and stopping to ask meaningful questions. Reading looks collaborative—students read in pairs or small groups, compare panels to traditional lines from the play, and make connections between the visuals and Shakespeare's language. The manga format lowers the barrier to entry, allowing students to participate without feeling overwhelmed, while still holding them to high expectations for analysis and discussion.\r\nSeveral students, especially reluctant readers and those who typically disengage from longer texts, have shown increased enthusiasm for the manga version of Macbeth. Some students who rarely volunteer to read aloud are now eagerly sharing insights about characters or pointing out details in the illustrations. English Language Learners and students who struggle with comprehension have also benefited from the visual cues, which support their understanding without removing the rigor of the content. Overall, these students are more confident, more willing to engage, and more open to reading Shakespeare than they were with the traditional text alone","fullyFundedDate":1769793378386,"projectUrl":"project/macbeth-reimagined-manga-magic-for-mode/9986779/","projectTitle":"Macbeth Reimagined: Manga Magic for Modern Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Black","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9066803_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685903365859","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9066803"},{"teacherId":8991663,"projectId":8812380,"letterContent":"My students were so excited when the new resources arrived. For many of them, it felt like a break from the minutia of the school day and a chance to simply relax and find joy in class. Since these materials were meant for my advisement students, whom I see daily, they've quickly become part of our routine. The stress balls were by far the most popular item, but every class has shown appreciation for the variety of resources.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments came during our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons. Instead of using our usual Rethink-Ed program, we tried out the Bingo game. The students loved how relatable it was, and we've now played it multiple times as a way to process feelings and emotions together. It turned what can sometimes feel like another structured lesson into something fun, interactive, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students will continue to incorporate these resources into our weekly SEL sessions every Monday and Tuesday. They are already asking when we'll use the games again, and I can see how much lighter the classroom atmosphere feels when they know these tools are available. Your contribution has given them not only new ways to manage stress but also opportunities to connect with one another in positive, joyful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1727060083102,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-empowering-mental-health-throug/8812380/","projectTitle":"Game On: Empowering Mental Health Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Richmond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8991663_orig.jpg?crop=1252,1252,x100,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683761195998","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8991663"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_55539","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1745,"numTeachers":107,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.4,"schoolId":55539,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Creekside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Creekside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/fulton-county-school-district/creekside-high-school/55539"}
