It has truly transformed our kindergarten classroom environment. With the addition of the new sensory materials, students now have a hands-on space where they can safely explore a variety of textures such as sand, rice, beans, water beads, and kinetic materials. These experiences allow my students to learn through touch and discovery, which is especially important at the kindergarten level. Many of my students learn best when they can physically interact with their environment, and the sensory bins material give them meaningful opportunities to do exactly that.\r\n\r\nBeyond sensory exploration, the bins have strengthened important social-emotional skills. Students naturally gather around the bin and practice sharing tools, taking turns, and cooperating with one another. They communicate, problem-solve, and help each other during play, which has encouraged teamwork and positive peer interactions. I have noticed students who were once hesitant to engage with classmates now initiating conversations and working together to build, sort, and create. The sensory station has become a space where friendships grow and confidence develops.\r\n\r\nThe sensory bins have also supported academic learning. Students are sorting, counting, comparing sizes, identifying letters hidden in the materials, and practicing fine motor skills while scooping, pouring, and grasping small objects. These activities strengthen hand muscles needed for writing while making learning feel like play. The excitement they feel when discovering a hidden letter or completing a collaborative task keeps them engaged and motivated throughout the day.\r\n\r\nKindergarten classrooms thrive when students are active participants in their learning, and this project has made that possible. The sensory center has become a favorite part of our daily routine and helps students regulate their emotions, refocus their attention, and return to whole-group instruction ready to learn. Thanks to the generous donors, my students now have a welcoming space that supports creativity, curiosity, cooperation, and joy. The impact of this project goes far beyond materials — it has helped create a classroom community where every child feels comfortable exploring, learning, and growing together.","fullyFundedDate":1763822202416,"projectUrl":"project/the-science-of-sensory-play/9883215/","projectTitle":"The Science of Sensory Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kirk","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10327332_orig.png?crop=240,240,x0,y30&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761185160982","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10327332"},{"teacherId":9065710,"projectId":9870921,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has become an even more joyful, hands-on place to learn!
