Thanks to your generosity, my students were able to enjoy a cozy reading corner with a beautiful rotary bookshelf and soft string lights that completely transformed part of our classroom. What once felt like an empty corner quickly became one of the most loved spaces in the room.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my fourth graders were immediately curious about the big box sitting in our classroom. As soon as we opened it, they eagerly volunteered to help build the bookshelf, which made the experience feel even more meaningful and exciting for them. While some students helped assemble it, others carefully organized the books by color, turning the shelves into a beautiful rainbow display. From the very beginning, they felt proud of the space because they helped create it together.\r\n\r\nThroughout the year, my students used the bookshelf every day to explore Spanish books independently, recommend stories to one another, and build confidence as bilingual readers. Having books displayed in an organized and inviting way made a huge difference — students were more excited to pick up books, try new genres, and spend extra time reading. The string lights helped create a calm and welcoming atmosphere that made students feel comfortable and motivated to learn.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts of this year was watching students choose to spend their reading time in our cozy corner during Spanish class. They loved grabbing bean bags or comfy chairs, turning on the soft lights, and picking out books from the colorful shelves they organized themselves. Even students who are still developing their reading habits began to associate reading with comfort, calmness, and imagination. To me, that is what reading is about — taking the time to let your mind wander, travel to other worlds, and allow your imagination to grow. Having a space that helps my students experience that makes me feel incredibly fortunate.\r\n\r\nYour kindness helped create not just a reading corner, but a place where students felt safe, inspired, and proud of their growth in Spanish. Thank you for believing in my students and for making such a meaningful impact on our classroom this year.","fullyFundedDate":1757077889585,"projectUrl":"project/a-warm-welcome-to-bilingual-learning/9573232/","projectTitle":"A Warm Welcome to Bilingual Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Esnaola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10168115_orig.jpg?crop=2709,2709,x0,y388&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754882065490","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10168115"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59910","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":330,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":28.6,"schoolId":59910,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cottonwood Plains Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cottonwood Plains Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/thompson-school-dist-r2-j/cottonwood-plains-elementary-school/59910"}
