They're always asking for time to read in our class library. We have also used some of the stories as journal topic ideas. One day the students wrote about how they could better manage their feelings of anger when upset. \r\n\r\nMy students have also loved having their own privacy board to use during assignments and also when playing games like Battle Ship. Having enough headphones for each student to have his/her own pair has been such a blessing! My first graders were so excited about the different colors to choose from as well. \r\n\r\nWe use the headphones daily in my classroom. My kids use them when playing the math fact game, Reflex, and when reading books on Epic. Sometimes they use them to help cancel out noise if needed during a test. \r\n\r\nMy students also use the dry-erase markers each day. They use them to do math on their tables, practice writing sentences, practice Spelling words, and free drawing time. \r\n\r\nI am so thankful to have been funded materials I needed and use frequently in my classroom. As the students came to my classroom one afternoon, they were given brief descriptions on each of the STEM items you provided for us, and then they were allowed to self-select a STEM kit that met their interest level. We discussed all the potential occupational/scientific fields these materials could help us learn about such as: astronomy, engineering, and earth science. When the students finally were able to begin building/learning with the materials, so many things began to happen. I saw emotions of joy and excitement, but I also saw some faces with problem solving expressions on them. Students were improving their communication skills as they discussed construction possibilities while incorporating the vocabulary associated with each kit. There was so much thinking and problem solving happening! Afterwards, students were asked to reflect on their experiences and what they learned during this STEM session. Many commented on how much fun they had and their gratitude for the materials. Others commented on specifics like how they learned how important it was that the wiring connections were properly assembled for the robot to work or how when building a Lego machine how each part had an important job and was needed for the machine to function properly.\r\n\r\nThank you for providing these materials to our 5th grade students. The learning that has transpired up to this point is immeasurable!
