After mourning the change in plans, I researched other books available for middle schoolers in Spanish and discovered Invisible, a graphic novel by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and Gabriela Epstein. The book is written in English and Spanish, and follows 5 students who are children of immigrants who all feel invisible in some way. They are thrown together to do \"community service\" (cleaning the cafeteria), but they end up helping a woman and her daughter experiencing homelessness. My students got so much joy out of reading this book, getting to read a story in Spanish, and seeing themselves in these characters. I hope that they will carry this message of kindness with them in the years to come.
