The huge world map has quickly become one of our favorite resources. Instead of simply reading about countries and historical events in a textbook, my students can actually see where these places are in relation to one another. It has sparked conversations, questions, and those wonderful \"Wait...that's where that is?\" moments that show me students are making connections.\r\n\r\nThe Play-Doh, cardstock, and posterboard have also given my students opportunities to show what they know in creative and hands-on ways. Students who don't always shine on a traditional test or worksheet often come alive when they can build, design, create, and explain something. These materials have helped me give students more ways to demonstrate their understanding.\r\n\r\nAnd then there are the supplies that make our classroom run a little more smoothly! Post-it notes and white-out are being used constantly for activities, brainstorming, and student work. The wireless doorbell has become a fun classroom tool that gets students' attention without me having to raise my voice, and the classroom sweeper has given my students one more way to take ownership of our shared space.\r\n\r\nWhat may look like a collection of simple classroom supplies has actually given me more opportunities to make learning interactive, creative, and memorable. My students have been able to move beyond simply learning facts and instead create, collaborate, make connections, and take an active role in their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and giving me the resources to make our classroom a place where learning doesn't always have to mean sitting in a desk with a pencil and paper. The new calculators allowed me to be able to instruct the students on how to properly use a calculator to figure fractions, decimals and percentages without having to go and teach each one individually on their specific type of calculator. This saves instructional time for learning instead of redirecting students moving around the room.
