Thanks to your support, our students now have access to the new resources we requested, and they have fundamentally changed how we approach our most challenging lessons. In one recent project, students used these tools to (share a specific classroom project something that was much more difficult, and less engaging, with our old materials. The immediate and tangible application of these concepts has fostered a deeper understanding and a remarkable jump in student confidence.\r\n\r\nThe moment the students first saw the materials was priceless—there were actual cheers! Their faces lit up, and It wasn't just about having new supplies; it was an affirmation that people outside our school value their education and believe in their potential. They were especially excited when they saw the watering cans, seed starter trays, and harvest baskets.\r\n\r\nOne highlight of the project so far has been assembling our prefab metal raised garden beds. Students worked collaboratively to unpack the panels, sort the hardware, and follow the instructions to construct each bed. They took turns aligning pieces, securing screws, and ensuring the beds were level and sturdy. This hands-on process encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and careful attention to detail, and students were proud to see the beds completed.\r\n\r\nWe've also begun integrating the new materials into our plant science unit. Students have already planted a variety of winter-hardy vegetable seeds—including leafy greens and cold-tolerant crops—using the indoor seed starter trays. They documented their predictions, created germination charts, and are monitoring early growth. Even though the plants are suited for cooler temperatures, students understand the importance of giving them a strong start indoors before transitioning them outside. Their careful use of the new watering cans and commitment to maintaining proper conditions show a growing sense of responsibility.\r\n\r\nAs the seedlings strengthen, students will transfer them to the metal raised beds they assembled. From there, they will continue tracking growth patterns, comparing winter crop varieties, and eventually harvesting their produce using the new baskets. These activities deepen their understanding of plant biology, seasonal growing cycles, and sustainable food production.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting a project that provides meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for my students. Your generosity has enriched our curriculum and created an experience that will benefit students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1761880814258,"projectUrl":"project/growing-minds-hands-on-gardening-from-s/9784208/","projectTitle":"Growing Minds: Hands-On Gardening from Seed to Harvest","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Odom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10297208_orig.jpg?crop=1500,1500,x1308,y156&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759938311463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10297208"},{"teacherId":6246371,"projectId":9731376,"letterContent":"When our new storage benches arrived, our students were immediately curious and excited. One of our students who typically struggles with transitions actually smiled, sat on one of the benches, and patted the seat as if inviting a friend to join. Moments like this showed us just how much these additions would support their comfort and sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nWe have already started using both benches daily during outdoor play. Students are learning to independently retrieve items like balls, bubbles, textured toys, and adapted equipment. At cleanup time, we practice returning everything to its designated spot in the benches, which has helped reinforce responsibility and organization. The benches have also become calming spaces where students can sit and take a sensory break when they feel overwhelmed, giving them a safe place to regulate before returning to play.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using the benches as support during structured outdoor learning activities—such as turn-taking games, motor-skill practice, and sensory exploration stations. As we move into new units, we'll also be rotating the materials stored inside so the benches continue to offer fresh, engaging play tools that meet our students' sensory and developmental needs.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly transformed our playground!
