By integrating hands-on activities, discussions, and creative projects, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and express themselves artistically. These experiences will encourage critical thinking, foster creativity, and allow students to develop their own artistic voice while being inspired by the achievements of legendary artists.\r\n\r\nYour support in helping implement this program will have a lasting impact on students' educational experience, enriching their understanding of art history while nurturing their personal growth and creativity. My younger students are practicing steady beat by tapping along, while our older students are diving into more complex rhythms and drumming techniques. Our favorite activity so far has been \"Ball Conductor,\" where a bouncing ball dictates the tempo and dynamic of the drum playing, requiring the students to carefully match the sound of the drums to the ball's movement—it's a fun challenge!\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when the drums were first opened was one of pure, joy and wonder. There were gasps and questions about what they were and when they could touch them. The sheer size and vibrant colors of the instruments made an instant impact, transforming our music corner into a mini-museum of musical instruments. This initial excitement has translated directly into enthusiastic participation. Seeing them sit around the drums, sharing a rhythmic experience and listening intently to one another, has been a truly rewarding moment for me as a teacher.\r\n\r\nThe possibilities with these drums are just beginning. Thanks to your donations, the drums are an important part of our musical journey while exploring different cultures. We will be able to continue to use these drums for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1741102478174,"projectUrl":"project/around-the-world-in-6-drums/9123016/","projectTitle":"Around the World in 6 Drums","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allmon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9928086_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740577600838","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9928086"},{"teacherId":9928086,"projectId":9143584,"letterContent":"The donation of drumsticks and drum pads has brought a wave of excitement and deeper engagement to our elementary music classroom. We put the new resources to use immediately, integrating them into several lessons that involve rhythm. Before, students would drum on their laps or on the floor, which made it difficult to assess and correct their technique - not to mention the noise. Now, the drum pads allow students to learn rhythms in a far more accurate way, providing immediate acoustic feedback and a target area. This has led to a noticeable improvement in drumstick technique and coordination. When the materials first arrived, the students were so excited; seeing the professional-looking pads and real drumsticks made them feel like true musicians. The joy of being able to play a \"cool\" instrument was an instant motivator.\r\n\r\nOur current classroom project, Rhythm Judo, is being completely transformed by this donation. In this project, students are challenged to master increasingly complex rhythms, earning a colored \"belt\" for each one they successfully perform—much like in martial arts. The drum pads are the perfect tool for practicing and performing these rhythms, making the progression feel more substantial and rewarding. A specific moment that stands out is watching a student finally perform a challenging sixteenth-note; the look of pride on their face as they heard the crisp, clear execution on the pad was priceless. Moving forward, the students will be taking the next steps in their Rhythm Judo journey, ending with a completion concert! The new drum pads and sticks will be essential for helping students internalize these more difficult rhythmic concepts with precision and confidence, ensuring they develop a solid rhythmic foundation for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1746786379684,"projectUrl":"project/quiet-drumming-for-rhythm-practice/9143584/","projectTitle":"Quiet Drumming for Rhythm Practice","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allmon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9928086_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740577600838","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9928086"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31460","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":802,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":19,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.8,"schoolId":31460,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Columbus Preparatory Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Columbus Preparatory Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/ohio-department-of-education/columbus-preparatory-academy/31460"}
