Your generosity allowed us to add meaningful books like Saunders' \"C.I. Quest\", a joyful story about a young farmer who wears a cochlear implant. Several families are now enjoying this book at home as they begin their own cochlear implant journey, and we were even able to provide a translated version for a Spanish-speaking family using program funds saved because of this project. Whether in the classroom or at home, our students can see themselves in the story, talk about the unique experiences of wearing a cochlear implant, and laugh at the playful rhymes.\r\n\r\nReading time with our students is interactive—we pause to explore new vocabulary, connect stories to our own experiences, and practice listening, speaking, and storytelling together. Most importantly, these books help students feel represented and proud of who they are. Some of my students with cochlear implants light up when they recognize experiences similar to their own, while their classmates build empathy and understanding about hearing differences. Because of your support, every teacher in our program now has a copy and we still have extras to share with families. I noticed that they have been using more vehicle sounds as they grow their language skills. The vehicles also have the ability to link together so they are also working on their fine motor skills. \r\n\r\nMy students were very curious when they first saw the bucket of vehicles at our parent child playgroup . I think they were initially drawn to the bright colors. Families need support to learn communication techniques to help children build their language while they play.
