Taking college level courses in high school means taking classes with a large academic responsibility and often heavy workload. This card game allowed my hard working students to breathe a little bit while they were still exposed to learning. The game focuses on biomes, ecosystems, and how varied environmental and man-made issues can impact food webs via an engaging card game.\r\n\r\nAt first, my students were hesitant and asking questions as they reviewed the rules and started playing. I loved it though as they really got into the game and were beginning to analyze their game moves and the effects they had on their individual and classmates' ecosystems. So many commented on the art of the cards as well. They are beautiful and appealing visually which helped cement the details of each of the biomes and species that live there in the students' minds. They now want to play all the time! They appreciate having them in the basket under their desk so that they are easy to access whenever they would like to use them. \r\nWhen we first got them, students were so excited to use them! I planned a lesson using Blooket that required scratch work to solve problems but did not need work to be turned in. EVERY student in class was participating and using the boards, they enjoyed the novelty of them and felt special using something new. \r\nStudents are very protective of the boards, making sure they are always put back safely in the baskets under the desks and stop other students from being rough with them as well. Other students who visit our class who are not my students always notice them right when they walk in and say they are jealous that their class doesn't have them.
