We went from practicing on our laps and the risers, to rehearsing on tables, to performing on a fully functional set-up that coordinated beautifully with our school gymnasium at our first concert! \r\n\r\nWe all learned so much since we began this journey together. I wasn't even sure if we could pull off a chimes ensemble. The students and I had no equipment and no knowledge or skills in this craft. But with our hard work to learn the ropes and your generous support, we now have the skills and supplies we need to get started, and we can use these items for years to come! \r\n\r\nThis endeavor has added such a unique element to our music program at Collins. After our performance in December, I heard so many nice comments from audience members. Some came up reminiscing about to when they played chimes in the childhood. It's something that I didn't even know was missing from our program. But I believe that now it is here to stay! I have had parents come up asking how their child can be involved with the chimes. We recently had six members of our ensemble audition for All-County handbells and two got accepted! Who knows where this new skill/talent/interest will take all of these children in their lifetimes. This has inspired a new generation of ringers, and I couldn't be more excited about the future or more proud of these students! \r\n\r\nThank you again for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1760693769848,"projectUrl":"project/ringing-in-a-new-ensemble/9689599/","projectTitle":"Ringing in a new Ensemble!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elliott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3752036_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757114463028","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3752036"},{"teacherId":2379212,"projectId":9736318,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kind support towards my project. I am so excited to have this program back to use in the classroom with my students. It is a great supplement to their learning.\r\nThis program keeps them engaged in what I am teaching in class. It presents the information in a different way and allows another outlet for learning for all students. They love Moby and Annie (the characters in Brainpop) and the hooks that they use to promote learning.\r\nI love the follow up activities in this program; it gives me a way to assess their learning through the quizzes and they love the jokes & supplemental activities. As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, I marvel every day at how we sighted people take advantage of incidental learning--learning by watching someone do it. We did not have to be taught step by step how to wash dishes or make an afternoon snack, we just watched someone do it. However, what happens when your sight is impaired. What happens when your brain has difficulty processing what your eyes are communicating?\r\n\r\n The Expanded Core Curriculum is what we use to teach visually impaired students, and that curriculum includes the area of Independent Living Skills and Social Skills. With this specific teaching, our students pick up on how to perform various daily living activities. The boy who does not see his mother tending to a pot on the stove may need additional instruction when it is time to learn cooking skills (i.e. what kind of spoon should be used to stir something hot on a stove? What are strategies for staying safe when working with a stove?). How to communicate what you want to eat when at a restaurant or how to interact with others while eating together are skills that our students can learn in the classroom with all of the appliances we have been gifted!\r\n\r\n The impact of your donation is a positive one! My students are already learning so much with these appliances, and their skills will significantly increase. They are very appreciative! May you and your families be blessed in abundance, and may you succeed in every endeavor!","fullyFundedDate":1733269562646,"projectUrl":"project/blind-and-visually-impaired-teens-can-co/8775296/","projectTitle":"Blind and Visually Impaired Teens Can Cook!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Buda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9812095"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30982","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1644,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"23.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.3,"schoolId":30982,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Collins PK-8 School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Collins PK-8 School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/hillsborough-county-public-school-district/collins-elementary-school/30982"}
