These new texts have opened the door to foundational early literacy skills for our youngest learners. With these books, we are practicing how to handle books with care, identify characters and settings, make predictions using picture clues, and retell key events in order. These stories also support vocabulary development and help build a love of reading through partner sharing, dramatic play, and joyful discussions. For many of my transitional kindergarteners, these books are their very first introduction to storytime routines, and your donation has helped us begin their school journey with curiosity and confidence.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading time is a blend of movement, imagination, and hands-on learning. Students gather on the carpet for read-alouds, act out story moments, and use crafts as a creative way to deepen comprehension. After reading, they explore the books again during center time: sequencing events, drawing characters, and making connections through art. These new texts have quickly become the heart of our daily routine, and I see my students growing more excited each day, pointing to words, asking questions, and sharing their thinking proudly with their peers. The Scholastic Let's Find Out magazine has made a huge impact on my students. Each month we get magazines that cover topics that are relevant for that month. For example, in the month of February we had magazines on groundhogs, President Washington and Lincoln, as well as a magazine about Simone Biles that went along with Black History Month. The students love looking through the colorful magazines each week. They also enjoy the online resources that go along with the magazine. There are videos on the subject we are learning about, as well as dance/movement breaks, educational games, and printable activities to enrich their learning. Sometimes Social Studies and Science can be boring and hard to understand, but with these resources, the students are having a wonderful time learning something new.
