Not only have they helped students build important reading skills, but they've also brought a sense of excitement and creativity to our lessons. For starters, the books are really helping students with their comprehension. As we read, they're getting better at understanding the plot, characters, and setting. They're learning to pick out key details, make predictions about what will happen next, and think critically about the choices the characters make. These books also help expand their vocabulary by introducing new words, and the more we read, the more confident they get in using those words in their own writing and conversations.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become more than just sitting with a bookâit's an interactive experience. We have regular read-aloud sessions where we dive into the story together, and I encourage the students to share their thoughts, ask questions, and talk about how the story connects to their own lives. This makes the reading feel alive and meaningful, not just something we have to do. The students love discussing the characters and what's happening in the book, and they often come up with their own ideas about how the story could end. We also do creative activities like drawing scenes from the book, writing new endings, or acting out parts of the story. These activities help students understand the material better while also tapping into their creativity.\r\n\r\nWhat's been really exciting to see is how some students have really connected with these books in unexpected ways. For example, one student who was previously hesitant to read aloud in front of the class has become more confident and even volunteers to read passages now. Another student, who didn't seem interested in books before, has developed a strong love for reading stories about animals. She now actively participates in discussions about the animals in the books and even shares facts she knows about them. It's wonderful to see how these books have helped all students find something they're passionate about, whether it's a character they relate to or a subject they're excited to explore more.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these books goes beyond just individual growth. It's brought a new energy to our classroom. Reading has become something the students really look forward to. They get excited to see which book we'll read next, and they love sharing what they've learned or what their favorite part of the story was. Some students who used to avoid books are now asking for more to read at home or bringing in their own stories to share with the class. This has created a more collaborative and supportive atmosphere in the classroom, as students recommend books to each other and work together on creative projects inspired by the stories.\r\n\r\nIn the end, these new books have helped my students grow not just as readers, but also as creative thinkers and confident learners. Whether we're reading aloud together, discussing the plot, or creating our own versions of the stories, these books have opened up new opportunities for learning and self-expression. I'm so grateful for the generosity of our donors. Their contributions have made a real difference in the lives of our students, and I can already see the lasting impact it will have on their love of reading and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1744209115954,"projectUrl":"project/reading-to-grow/9245273/","projectTitle":"Reading to Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Murphy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9101200"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49245","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":831,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":38,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":40.4,"schoolId":49245,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Claxton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Claxton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/evans-county-school-district/claxton-elementary-school/49245"}
