Because of your support, my students—especially those in our Exceptional Children (EC) cohort—have experienced learning in a way that truly meets their needs and honors who they are as individuals. What you provided was not just supplies; you helped bring a vision to life that I had long dreamed of for my students.\r\n\r\nMy classroom includes a diverse group of learners, including multiple students on the autism spectrum and students with significant sensory and emotional regulation needs. Before this project, many of these students struggled to remain engaged, regulated, and confident throughout the school day. Thanks to your donations—fidget and focus tools, social-emotional learning resources, a calm corner stocked with regulation tools, an iPad for SEL and mindfulness instruction, LEGOs, and other hands-on materials—students now have access to choices that empower them to learn successfully.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful changes I've seen is in students' ability to self-regulate. The calm corner has become a safe, respected space where students can independently identify when they need support and select tools that help them reset. Instead of escalating or shutting down, students now use breathing exercises on the iPad, sensory tools, or quiet building activities to regain focus. This has led to calmer transitions, longer periods of engagement, and a classroom environment where students feel emotionally safe.\r\n\r\nThe SEL iPad center has been especially impactful. During center time, students participate in guided mindfulness activities, emotion check-ins, and social skills practice. These moments have helped students build emotional vocabulary and recognize their own needs. I have watched students who once struggled to express themselves now confidently say, \"I need a break,\" or \"I need a fidget to help me focus.\" That level of self-advocacy is a huge step toward lifelong independence and success.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on supplies, including LEGOs and manipulatives, have also transformed learning. Students who previously found traditional instruction overwhelming are now deeply engaged through building, collaboration, and exploration. These materials allow students to demonstrate understanding in meaningful ways and foster peer connection. I've seen friendships form, teamwork strengthen, and a sense of belonging grow—especially among students who often feel different or left out.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most importantly, your generosity has helped create a true classroom community. Students are learning that everyone has different needs—and that those needs are valid. They celebrate one another's strategies for success and respect the tools their peers choose. This shared understanding has built empathy, patience, and kindness in ways that extend far beyond academics.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students are more regulated, more confident, and more engaged. You gave me the ability to design a classroom that supports the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—exactly as I had envisioned. Thank you for believing in my students and for helping them feel successful, supported, and valued every single day.\r\n\r\nWith sincere gratitude,\r\nMs. Corrova\r\nFourth Grade Teacher\r\nClaxton Elementary School\r\nAsheville, North Carolina","fullyFundedDate":1760792560221,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-and-innovation/9646734/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning and Innovation for Diverse Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Corrova","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10221145_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756041373509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10221145"},{"teacherId":8529410,"projectId":9587456,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our Science of Reading resources. Your contribution has already made a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe've begun using the new materials daily during our small-group literacy lessons. The mirrors have become an essential tool as students learn how to form sounds correctly—being able to actually *see* their mouth positions has helped them make immediate, confident adjustments. One of my favorite moments was watching a student light up when he realized he could isolate a tricky sound simply by noticing where his tongue was placed in the mirror. That sense of pride was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nThe new bookshelf has allowed us to organize our decodable texts and instructional tools in a way that makes students feel ownership over their reading space. The softer lighting from the classroom lamp has also created a calmer, more focused environment, especially for students who can become easily overstimulated. And the noise-cancelling headphones have been a tremendous support during independent practice, giving students a quiet zone to concentrate on decoding and reading fluently.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the excitement was immediate—especially for the mirrors and the headphones. They were eager to explore, and their curiosity turned into joyful, engaged learning within minutes.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our students.
