Our 5th grade math classroom is part of an Arts & Humanities magnet school in Asheville, NC. From Day 1 we investigate how to solve problems together, how to make sense of different viewpoints, and plot our courses to become #changemakers in our community. We explore math concepts through the arts and multisensory experiences. As a lifelong learner, I am passionately curious about the intersection of mathematical teaching/learning and social justice. I seek to provide opportunities for my students to explore their mathematical identities and to take ownership of their unique methods of problem solving.
