At Clarksville, our students come from a wide range of backgrounds. We love that we are able to offer books for the classes that provide the students with a wide range of stories, as well. We want to ensure that our students are able to both build empathy for others, as well as read literature that they can see themselves in. \r\nOne of the ways our teachers have begun to use the books is as an option for book clubs during class. Many teachers offer students different options for a book study and the students use class time to discuss the books with their groups and complete assignments around the books. The new books are currently being used by our sophomore classes for a book club study. \r\nWe have several kids who were excited to read the books and discover new stories. While we have students who love reading anything, we also have many picky readers. Providing new options for our students can give our reluctant readers a chance to find a book they love. We hope that long-term, our students can build a relationship with reading that lasts for a lifetime.
