For independent time, we already had different reading options in our class, whether it be reading actual books from the library or my classroom library or reading on the website Epic! This listening center has given us the third option of just getting to listen to and enjoy a story...and sometimes that's what a student is in the mood for! \r\n I have been purchasing and putting out seasonal books and cds for the students to use. During October, they enjoyed back to school, fall, and pumpkin books. November brought turkey and Thanksgiving stories. Throughout December, I had holiday and wintry options available. The students love having the rotation of different books. Up to 4 students can listen at once and they love just relaxing, flipping through the story together, and listening as a group. Listening centers like this were removed from our school system a couple years ago, so this feels like a brand new thing to my second graders!\r\n Although all of my students have benefited from your donation, my students who struggle have benefited the most. This listening center has given them a low stress option for independent reading. They enjoy choosing a book and practicing following along in the text as they listen. Many of these students have shown improvement at following along and keeping up in a text that I am reading to them or the class is reading together as a shared read. Because of this, they are recognizing more words and reading more fluently and with more accuracy when they read aloud to me. Listening and following along while at the listening center is further strengthening these skills for students, while also strengthening their comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nYour donation means so much to us! Thank you again for your incredible gift to my current students and future students. I attached the bands to the desks the other day and have noticed the majority of the students bouncing their feet while working quietly. The bands are great because if the student does not feel like using them, they simply push them to the top of the desk leg, out of their way. \r\n The students are also enjoying using the seat cushions and chair to read around the room.
