With access to new technology, students are learning that creating a yearbook involves much more than taking pictures. They are developing real skills in photography, photo selection and editing, page design, organization, collaboration, and visual storytelling.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is having the opportunity to document their own school community. They love being able to take a camera to a game, event, spirit day, or activity and know that the photographs they capture could become part of our school's permanent history. There is a different level of pride when students are working with equipment that allows them to see themselves as actual photographers, designers, and journalists rather than simply students completing an assignment.\r\n\r\nI have especially enjoyed watching students who may not always be the first to speak up in a traditional English classroom find their place in yearbook. Some have gravitated toward photography, while others have discovered that they enjoy designing pages, organizing content, or working behind the scenes. The technology gives students multiple ways to contribute based on their individual strengths.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has given my students the tools to tell the story of City Arts & Leadership Academy from their own perspective. They are not just learning how to use technology; they are learning how to preserve memories, represent their peers, and create something that our entire school community will be able to look back on for years to come. I am incredibly grateful to our donors for helping give my students the tools to make that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1778002611328,"projectUrl":"project/the-calendar-yearbook-class/10132409/","projectTitle":"The CALendar Yearbook Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10100084"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20839","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":393,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":83,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.5,"schoolId":20839,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about City Arts & Leadership Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"City Arts & Leadership Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-francisco-unified-school-district/city-arts-tech-high-school/20839"}
